ECCE - Free Pre-School Places

ecceschemeEarly Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)

As part of an initiative by the Irish Government under the ECCE scheme it is now possible to enroll your child in our Headstart Preschool free of charge.

What is the free Pre-School Year in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)?

The ECCE is a scheme designed to give children access to free Pre- School of appropriate programme-based activities before they start primary school. Participation in a pre-school programme provides children with their first formal experience of early learning, the starting-point of their educational and social development outside the home. Children who avail of pre- school are more likely to be ready for school and a formal learning and social environment.

Will my child be eligible?

From September 2016, children will be able to register for free pre-school when they are aged 3, and will be able to remain in pre-school until they make the transition to primary school (provided they are not older 5 years 6 months at the end of the pre-school year i.e. the end of June).

Children will also be able to enrol in pre-school at three different points in the year – September, January and April – so that children can begin pre-school shortly after they reach age 3.

How can I enroll my child for the free Pre-School Year at Oakview Village Childcare?

Parents can contact Oakview Village Childcare to arrange an appointment to view our service. Due to increased demand we advise families to contact us as early as possible as we are currently operating a Waiting List for ECCE places. Please phone 066 7127400 where Joelene, the Centre Manager will answer all your questions.

How is the Pre-School Year funded?

As a participating service in the scheme, Oakview Village Childcare is paid a capitation fee for each qualifying child enrolled. In return, Oakview Village Childcare will provide an appropriate programme of activities in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) which will be free to parents.

How will the Pre-School Year be provided at Oakview Village?

The scheme runs 3 hours a day, 5 days a week over 38 weeks a year. Children availing of a full or part-time service will receive an ECCE reduction on their standard fees accordingly.

Will parents have to pay additional charges to Oakview Village Childcare for the free Pre-School Year?

No additional charges will apply for the free sessional Pre-school year. As Oakview Village Childcare participates in the scheme we provide the pre-school year free to parents. However, we may charge parents for any additional services such as additional hours or school outings. These are optional.
